MASSIVE FIELD OF PRO ALCOHOL STARS TO FEATURE AT THE 2022 WINTERNATIONALS

24 May 2022

The 400 Thunder Drag Racing Championship will deliver the largest field of Pro Alcohol Stars for many years at the 2022 Gulf Western Oil Winternationals, coming from across the East Coast of Australia to compete for the largest prize money payout in Pro Alcohol history in Australia, racing under a unique Double Header race format.

The 14 Car field will include a sensational mix of multiple Australian Champions competing against young guns trying to take their crown. This bracket will offer plenty of excitement across the weekend, guaranteeing great racing as this field fights to become the Winternationals Champion.

The racing will feature current 400 Thunder Champion Gary Phillips, Multi 400 Thunder winner Steven Reed, current 400 Thunder Championship leader Justin Walshe, plus a host of seasoned racers and young guns fighting for this Drag Racing honour.

Peter Beaumont, CEO of Willowbank Raceway has stated “talking to all of the racers, there is an air of excitement about this year’s Winternationals, and the high number of Pro Alcohol cars competing in the Series moving forward. These guys have been really proactive in working us and with 400 Thunder to ensure their Series will be well attended and contested for the remainder of the season, which ensures the race fans will benefit from the great racing”.

Chris Hargrave (Middy's Electrical Pro Alcohol) added, “Pro Alcohol is currently enjoying the growth in the number of competitors we are seeing. To have 14 cars line up for this Double Header is a sensational result. We cannot wait to get to the track to feel the atmosphere and be part of the Winternationals. This should set the basis for the remainder of the 400 Thunder race season, with big race fields, big crowds, and close racing”.

Steve & Debbie Reed (Allstar Batteries Pro Alcohol) “when we saw so many great racers entering The Winternationals, we felt like we had to contribute to the race weekend. The Allstar Batteries Best Reaction Time will feature a $1,000 bonus to the Pro Alcohol racer with the Best Reaction Time over the entire weekend.” Both Steven & Debbie are partners in the Allstar Battery business, with Debbie choosing the best reaction time for this award, hoping that one of the young guns comes through to win this great prize.

Justin Walshe (Harts Paints Pro Alcohol) the Super Thunder 2022 Champion, “coming off a last up victory the whole team feels confident to continue the success. Having 14 cars in the race meeting this time adds a lot of pressure, however every time you jump into a 400 Thunder Championship weekend, the pressure is on. We are really looking forward to the upcoming Winternationals and the remainder of the Championship, big fields add to the atmosphere and the fun of racing. We look forward to seeing a massive crowd at Willowbank Raceway for a memorable race weekend.”

The Unique “Double Header” format at the Winternationals will see the Pro Alcohol Teams on track on Friday Qualifying before racing under the All Run Format on Saturday.  Uniquely, the racing on Saturday will set the qualifying order for the elimination race on Sunday with the Winternationals Champion coming from Sunday’s race.

This concept is a first for Australian Drag Racing and is sure to get the fans excited with the amount of Pro Alcohol action on track at this year’s event.  Matching this unique format is the largest prize money pool ever offered for Pro Alcohol in Australia, expect to see fireworks on tracks as the racers will be going all out to win.

Race Fans are guaranteed to see close side by side Pro Alcohol races over Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at the Winternationals this year. If you are a Pro Alcohol fan like us, this is one race meeting not to be missed.

The Gulf Western Oil Winternationals will be run at Willowbank Raceway from June 9 to June 12, and race fans can expect to see the very “Best of the Best” competing across all professional and sportsman Championship categories.
