Gulf Western Oil Winternationals to be launched at Orion Springfield

The 52nd Gulf Western Oil Winternationals will be officially launched with a major community event at Orion Springfield Shopping Centre on Sunday May 26th.  The launch will feature vehicle displays, racer meet and greet photo and autograph opportunities, ticket and prize give aways, Winternationals merchandise, plus a big screen showing Winternationals footage. A centre piece of the day will be the debut of a new version of the Winternationals Billy Cart Bash for kids that was originally run with great success in Ipswich back in the Nineties.

Junior sporting and community clubs are invited to nominate two person teams comprising driver and pusher to compete for trophies for the winners and a share of $2,000 in prizemoney to go to their club. Kids up to 13 years will race in identical billy karts specially constructed for the event by the Ipswich Men’s Shed. The competition will be conducted just like a real drag racing with Christmas Tree starting lights sending two karts at a time down the 40 metre course in Main Street at Orion. The victors proceed into the next round while the losers bow out at that point. The winning Boy’s and Girl’s teams will win $500 each for their organization with the runner’s up receiving $300 and the third place getters $200. All entrants will also receive a Winternationals Billy Kart Bash T-Shirt for taking part. Teams can nominate online at https://www.orionspringfieldcentral.com.au/whats-on/events/winternationals-billy-cart-bash

The Winternationals launch event is expected to attract strong community support and attract mainstream media. Orion Springfield is making the entire length of Main Street available for the event and the Raceway will be working to mount the largest, eye-catching display as possible. Bump in will be early on the Sunday morning with ALL vehicles and display elements needing to be in position by 8.30am. The display will run all day with bump out from 4.00pm. Racers are invited to register their interest in displaying their race car or bike by emailing admin@willowbankraceway.com.au Whether displaying a vehicle or not, all members of the drag racing community are encouraged to attend the event wearing racing apparel.
