Tight Racing at Street Series Round 6

Here’s series commentator, Terry Dale’s, recap of a great night’s racing.

“We were greeted with blue skies and tough competition for the penultimate round of the mighty Willowbank Raceway Street Series.

Sports turf services Street Bike
W : Tammy Goldthorpe
R/up : Phil Airey

What started as a points bottleneck with all the number two’s chasing number one Anthony Little was sorted early with Anthony unbelievably going out first round one. So it was on. Even though Brooks, Crang and Rieck got some good points Track Champ Tammy Goldthorpe was victorious and scored the biggest haul. But here’s the potential spoiler, Phil Airey who is not registered for the street series took a runner up to back up his win from last round taking points away from final eight aspirants Great racing everyone.

W : Jody Wentworth
R/up : Sarah Langridge

Laaaaadies and laaaadies no gentleman here ! What a field with super tough racing as we battled our way through the field dropping off gun contenders Anderson ,Larfield, Barron and Pukis early on. Going rounds gives you points and Fletcher, Horne, Welsh and Brockhurst did well but didn’t make the final. Breaking through for her first win of the season, current Track Champ Jody Wentworth got the victory over now two time runner up Sarah Langridge.
It’s a lottery for the eight as the last round will be pivotal for the fast lady racers.

Qld Mustang and Camaro Spares Street eliminator
W: Diane Troy
Rr/up : Nigel Woods

It’s the category that breeds winners and tonight it didn’t disappoint. This lady hasn’t had a podium since 2016 and got the goods and the tree tonight. Diane took on first time finalist Nigel and got the win in what was one of the closest finals of the night. Congrats to you both good work!

Exelmetal Hot Street
W : Ray Ross
R/up : Johnny McGrath

Johnny in the Commodore has had two runners up and a win this year so is well and truly in contention for the final eight. Ray in the Dodge Charger is making a late charge with a runner up last meet and a well deserved win at this round. Consistency is the key and it’s no time for snoozing.

Mick’s Towing Quick Street
W : Shaun Doeblien
R/up : Nicholas Mitchell

So Nick is a regular competitor in the series and tonight was finally rewarded with a runner up at Tthe meet. Shaun in the bad blue ford GT was on song and battled through the field to take a good win and racked up valuable points for his top eight campaign. Bring it on!

Highlights and Interesting Tid Bits.

Malcolm (Brooksy) Brooks got the $50 on the bike with a 003 light. Jody and Ray got the wins in the same car and got a Fernwood landscape tree each, nice. Diane getting a very good win. There were more Double Breakouts than Boggo Road in the 70’s. The classic staging duel of the night between track champ Josh Fletcher and Rhys Johnson with Rhys running an 11.14 on an 11.14 to get the win over Josh in an epic pairing. Nice work guys, very exciting. Richard Johnson getting in amongst the points. Natalie Coultas the sole bike rider in powder puff.

So there you have it, it was a packed night with plenty of test cars and some sweet Mopar rides joining in preparing for the following day’s Mopar Sunday event and some tough Pre Jambo testing as well.

Thanks to Teanah and Matty for joining me on the mic on the night and thanks to the racers, their crews and the crowd who enjoy our Series. Final eight is so close we can feel the tension building, get on it.

Your proud Street series announcer, Terry Dale.”
