Eighth Mile Celebration

Stomper 1/8th Mile Celebration

Willowbank Raceway is excited to host 3 Eighth mile events with the last one on Sunday 4 September, being the annual Stomper 1/8th mile Celebration.

The first two dates will feature 1/8th mile drag racing.  The Car and Hot Rod Show and Shine will run at the Series Final in September 2022.

At the Series Final on Sunday 4 September, with the blessing of the Winterburn family, the drag racing and hot rod community will come together to remember and celebrate the legacy of Stomper. This final event will be a festive occasion featuring the 1/8th mile drag racing, car and hot rod show, live music and what Stomper enjoyed most … partying! Be prepared to have lots of fun and celebrate all things that Stomper held near and dear. After the racing activities conclude, a live band will play on into the night so camping will be available for anyone who wishes to stay at the raceway for the evening Sunday 4 September.

  • All entries need to be received by close of business one week prior to the event.
  • All racers (except Street Sedan and Street bikes) not holding an IHRA licence must purchase an Event Licence through IHRA Australia.

QUALIFYING

  • Qualifying times will be published on the websites closer to the event
  • All racers will nominate which bracket they wish to race in on their entry form. (eg. Modified, Super Sedan, Super Street, Modified Bike, Junior Dragster and Eighth Mile Outlaws)
  • Racers are entitled to two qualifying runs - time permitting
  • Racers will be able to change from nominated bracket if they run quicker or slower than anticipated during qualifying. If the racer prefers to run in a quicker bracket than they qualified in they must notify the meeting director of their race number and which bracket they need to be moved to prior to the start of racing.
  • Special Note: Please be aware of track regulation regarding ET cut offs as this may vary.

IMPORTANT NOTE

Any car or motorbike running quicker than the street vehicle cut offs without the appropriate IHRA credentials and racer/vehicle safety equipment may immediately be disqualified from the event as per the IHRA Rule Book

RACING

No Seeding –

Racers will line up in the staging lanes in any order when called to the lanes. It is the racers responsibility to ensure they do not run the same person twice.

Nominating Dial-in –     You must display your dial-in on your vehicle at the end of qualifying. You must nominate a time within the limits of your bracket; you may not dial-in faster than the minimum cut off for that bracket.

Acceptance of Dial-in -  To commence your run, when called, move into the burnout pad and commence your burnout wait for the dial-in on the scoreboards to update with your dial-in. If your dial-in is correct move forward into stage, if not notify the track official immediately to have it changed. Once you have staged you have accepted your dial-in and it will not be changed.

Staging –    All competitors must stage in a forward motion. It is sportsmanly to bring on your pre-stage light and wait for your opponent to bring on their pre-stage light before going into full stage. Once both stage lights are lit the race can commence. Any competitor who stages in an un-sportsman like manner without giving their opponent reasonable time to stage will be ordered back out of stage by the starter. Please talk to your opponent to find out their burnout procedure to ensure you both have adequate time to prepare your car for your run.

Bracket Rounds - All racing will follow IHRA rules and regulations for Group Three dial your own racing.

  • All competitors compete in all three rounds of racing regardless of previous race results
  • Lane Choice is determined by quicker dial for that round having the choice
  • Centreline or sideline infringement is automatic lose
  • First red light is the loser
  • Worst break out (run quicker than dial in) is the loser
  • Bye run is automatic win once the vehicle has accepted the start except for centerline or sideline infringement
  • No points awarded if vehicle breaks during the burnout and cannot take the stage beams under its own power.

Finals -       At the completion of bracket rounds, a count back will be made to establish the finalists. The criteria will be as follows -

  • Two racers with three round wins a piece – automatic entry into the final regardless of red lights or breakouts in the last round.
  • More than two racers with three wins a piece – any racer with a red light or breakout in the last round, regardless of whether you are on a bye run or not, will be excluded from this count back immediately.
  • The count back is then based on elapsed time versus dial-in in the last round of racing. Reaction times play no part in the count back.
  • The two racers who are closest to their respective dial-ins are then eligible for the final.
  • If by chance the count back is a dead heat, it will then be based on the second last round of racing and so on until a winner is established. (Special Note: in the extreme case of only one racer being eligible, eg. All others red lit their final round but won the race, then the red light would be null and void to establish the second finalist based on closest to dial-in, in the case a tie of a double breakout occurs it will be closest to their dial in)
  • One racer with three wins and one racer with two wins - automatic entry into the final regardless of red lights or breakouts in the last round
  • No racers with three wins and only two racers with two wins - automatic entry into the final regardless of red lights or breakouts in the last round.
  • No racers with three wins and more than two racers with two wins – count back will be made as above

Any dispute or questions regarding rule interpretations, please take them up with the meeting director. The meeting director’s decision is final.

Trophies

  • Winner & Runner Up for each bracket
  • Best dressed American theme crew during the each event
