Locals Triumph at East Coast Nationals

At the recent 400 Thunder East Coast Nationals, we were pleased to hear of two local racers taking victory on the national stage – Peter Everett in the Competition Bike class, and Phil White in Modified Bike.

On his way to victory, Everett not only top qualified, but also reset the national elapsed time record for his class from 9.679 to 9.639 seconds.

“I’m really happy with it, this bike is a little trooper,” said Everett after defeating Matthew Walker in the final. “What it’s done for me since I’ve had it – I’ve put a lot into it but it’s just a trooper of a little bike.

“I’m really happy for the conditions we had. It would have been nice to take that speed record too but a Gold Tree, a record and top qualifier what else could you ask for?”

Joining Everett as a South East Queensland representative in the East Coast Nationals winners’ circle was our own Willowbank Raceway track official Phil White.

The 44 year old took on fellow Queenslander and Fuchs Winternationals Modified Bike winner Ace Edwards in the Modified Bike final. With a better reaction time on the line, White was able to cross the line ahead of Edwards, with a 9.399 ET on a 9.29 dial in from Edwards’ 8.812 and 8.81 dial in.

The Chuwar resident spoke to the Queensland Times after taking victory; telling them that the win – which he attributes to not only the knowledge that comes from being a track official, but also improved fitness and enthusiasm – is the biggest of his career. Willowbank Raceway sends its congratulations to not only Everett and White, but to all of the South East Queensland racers that competed in the East Coast Nationals on a job well done!
