Willowbank Raceway - Willowbank Celebrates Its Officials Day Just For Them

Willowbank Celebrates its Officials with a day just for them

The annual Willowbank Raceway Officials Day was held on Sunday 16th of August, with plenty of fun had by all despite cold and overcast conditions.

Consisting of racing, a BBQ and awards presentation, the annual event allows Willowbank Raceway to take a minute to recognise its hard working volunteers who make everything that happens at the track possible.

Craig Vogler took out both the Dennis Syrmis and John Clarke memorial awards in just one spectacular pass down the track, while newcomer Sydney Whyte took out the Rod Snellman Memorial Award at what was not only his first officials day, but also his first ever race meet!

The Powder Puff class was taken out by Tracey Fletcher from Amanda Tribe, with Fletcher also recognised with a 15 year award for her services as an official.

Ross Lutton took the win in the Under 35s ‘The Never Was’ category from Dale Duffy, while Richard Fletcher was victorious in the Over 35s ‘The Has Beens’ category from Shannon Matheson.

“Every year we enjoy this special chance to celebrate and recognise our loyal and hard-working volunteer officials here at the Raceway,” said Willowbank Raceway CEO Tony Manson.

“A big thanks has to go to Sue Syrmis, Ni Duffy and Peter Duffy for running the tower and startline, as does a big birthday shout-out to Peter who celebrated his birthday on the day; and also to 1300 Medics and the Mount Forbes Fire Brigade Services for their assistance.

“It was also very special to see long-time Willowbank staffer Lauren Keynes make an appearance to introduce us all to Willowbank Raceway’s newest family member – Alexander Keynes.

“We hope that all those who took part enjoyed their day, and would like to thank them for coming along, and for all of their services across the year – without you, what we do here wouldn’t be possible.”
