Willowbank Raceway plays host to RACQ All Schools Pedal Prix

Willowbank Raceway has once again played host to power of the human kind  thanks to the RACQ All Schools Pedal Prix.

The RACQ All Schools Pedal Prix pits more than 400 students from 20 schools against each other in Human Powered Vehicles (HPVs), which are capable of speeds nearing 48 kilometres per hour. It was the 12th time the event has been hosted at the Ipswich facility.

The aim of the race is to out-lap your opponent, with teamwork a necessity for victory.

Drag racing aboard the HPVs found the starting grid positions for both Junior and Senior teams on Thursday the 30th of July, before racing – where the aim is to out-lap your opponent – kicked off with the Junior Three Hour race that afternoon.

St Mary’s College, Maryborough #136, took out that event, before Friday the 31st of July hosted the Senior Six Hour event, with St Mary’s College #1 also taking the victory this afternoon. Also taking out accolades were Rochedale SHS who was awarded for their Design and Innovation.

Event committee member and Corinda State High manual arts teacher Andrew Newberry said the event had been a great success.

“We are very happy with the outcome of this year’s RACQ All Schools Pedal Prix, it has been another great event with the students giving it their all and enjoying themselves at the same time,” said Newberry.

“The race is really the ultimate test of a student’s strength, endurance and mechanical ingenuity, as well as their ability to work together as a team, with each vehicle having its own pit crew and a number of riders who all need to work together.

“This is the twelfth time we have brought the RACQ All Schools Pedal Prix to Willowbank Raceway and we can’t wait to come back again next year!”

The 2016 RACQ All Schools Pedal Prix will be held 28-29 July once again at Willowbank Raceway.
