NOSTALGIC ACTION PROVIDES PERFECT PRELUDE TO MARCH ACTION

Article Date: 24 February 2010

Nostalgia action rocks Willowbank as countdown continues to 1320x/Street Machine Pro Street Nationals March weekend – entries close this Friday February 26.

As time continues to tick down towards Willowbank Raceway’s largest ever sportsman drag racing weekend (March 19-21), the track came alive on the weekend with the roar of Nostalgia, including Norm Longfield’s nitro-burning front-engined dragster.

While racing for the Nitro Magazine Nostalgia Drags event was cut short by showers later in the night, the day and early evening provided plenty of racing action for the fans, with Longfield completing two passes before the weather closed in with his best a 6.10 second pass on his first ‘check out’ run with a oil leak on his second run seeing him run a 6.2s.

At the closing of the event, winners were established in Nostalgia Outlaw (Nathan Peirano), Junior uel (Zachary Peirano), Gas (Sean Helson), Outlaw Bike (Steven Fakes) and Classic Bike (Ashley Taylor). For more information from the weekend, please visit www.nostalgiadrags.com.au

While the Nostalgia racing might be over for now, there is plenty coming up for Willowbank Raceway, including the mammoth March weekend of March 19-21.

The massive weekend of grassroots drag racing will see the filming of reality drag racing program 1320x over the Friday and Saturday, followed up by the Street Machine Pro Street and Muscle Car Nationals on Sunday.

Entries for both events close this Friday February 26 – please see www.willowbankraceway.com.au for information on how to enter.

Willowbank Raceway will also host filming of 1320X in July as well as March, after a deal was struck with the 1320X Australia and their USA based partner Los Angeles’ Disruptive Studios.

Responsible for the popular Pullin Television produced series ‘PINKS All Out’, which is currently in its fourth season, Disruptive Studios launched 1320X which focuses on grassroots drag racing at action packed, family friendly events, in July of 2008.

Willowbank Raceway Managing Director Steve Bettes said the filming of the 1320X would be part of a massive weekend celebrating grassroots drag racing.

“March’s filming of 1320x will open a major weekend of Pro Street and Street & Sportsman Style Racing at Willowbank Raceway, with the program extending to three days to incorporate the filming and the Street Machine Magazine Pro Street and Muscle Car Drag Racing Nationals over the weekend of March 19-21," said Bettes.

“This will unquestionably be the Largest Pro Street / Street and Sportsman Style Drag Racing event ever staged in Australia and we are proud to host both events at Willowbank Raceway on the one weekend.

“The PINKS All Out TV show and events in the USA are extremely successful and have provided unique television coverage for sportsman drag racers and we believe that 1320X version is going to provide the same exciting opportunity in Australia, for our sportsman drag racers to become the stars on TV.”

The Australian producers on behalf of Disruptive Studios for the show will be Frazzica Productions.

Following March’s grassroots spectacular, the major event action continues for Willowbank Raceway with the ENZED Australian Top Fuel Championships (featuring Top Fuel, Pro Stock and Pro Stock Bike) on April 17 and 18, and the season-ending Castrol EDGE Winternationals on June 10-13.
