50th WINTERNATIONALS COMMEMORATIVE CHRISTMAS TREE

Willowbank Raceway has unveiled a once in a lifetime commemorative version of the 400 Thunder Gold Christmas Tree trophy that will be awarded to all Eliminator winners this weekend when the City of Ipswich presents the Gulf Western Oil 50th Winternationals.


Raceway President, Tony Wedlock, said “ We could not let the 50th running of Australia’s greatest Drag Racing event pass without offering a very special memento to the worthy winners of the nineteen categories of racing being contested. From humble beginnings at the old Surfers Paradise International Raceway in 1968, it has grown to become the largest Drag Racing event held anywhere in the world outside of the United States since moving to Willowbank Raceway in 1988 We are looking forward to another history making event this weekend.”


Over 550 teams from all over Australia will contest the Gulf Western Oil Winternationals which is expected to attract up to 40,000 people to the Ipswich facility. A near record entry list of professional category competitors has nominated for the event with pundits predicting a long list of national records to be broken in the exceptional racing conditions on offer. The headline Top Fuel Dragster class is fully subscribed and features the defending Winternationals Champion, Larry Dixon from the USA and a stellar line up including Victoria’s Queen of Speed, Rachelle Splatt, determined to be the first women to reach 300mph (482kph) in Australia.


The Gulf Western Oil 50th Winternationals commences on Thursday June 8th and runs to Sunday the 11th at Willowbank Raceway, Ipswich.
