BACZYNSKI LEADS THE WAY TO EIGHTH MILE SERIES FINAL AT BENARABY

Benaraby Raceway will this weekend host the final round of the 2015 JP Racing Eighth Mile Drag Racing Series, with Gin Gin’s Peter Baczynski preparing to lead the way in the FG Loy and Sons Eighth Mile Outlaws category.
The 59 year old Cattle Farmer and Motelier has been involved in the series since its inception, and is leading the points in his category as the 2015 Series nears its completion.
“I have been involved in the JP Racing Eighth Mile Series ever since the start. I am very good mates with (naming rights sponsor) John Payne and he does all the engines and gearboxes for myself and my sons, so we have been going with him ever since it started,” said the LX Torana racer.
“I have gone pretty well every year, I just haven’t been able to get to the end.
“It is a good bunch of blokes, when we first started in the outlaws bracket it was a bit hard as you are racing guys in petro cars in your blown-alcohol car and they are different animals.
“It’s like a big family – you get to know people over the years, you help each other out, if you have got it you give it, if they ask you to help you just do it, you don’t even think twice about it.
“It is a big part of what I like about the eighth mile series, the ‘family-style’ part of the racing – a lot of the time that side of things has gone away from racing, but you have that here a lot and I really enjoy that side of it.”
“The final is going to be a very, very good day. There are a number of us that will be equal on points by the time the travelling points are taken into account, so assuming that none of us gets knocked out early, you will have to win the meeting to win the series – it will be that close in points.
“They are all good racers, but they have one little disadvantage – this is my home track, and they are all travelling. I have done two perfect lights (a 0.000 second reaction time) in the one meeting recently, and if you stay in the 0.7 and are within hundredths of your dial in you are going to be fairly hard to beat.”
Always close-by when Baczynski is racing is his wife of 39 years, Genevieve.
“My wife has towed me to the line and back for the last five years, but I found out recently that she never watches,” said Baczynski.
“On that occasion I had run a really good pass, everything was perfect, and I got down to the end and my missus came down to get me and I said to her ‘did you see that, it was perfect, you might go another five years without a pass like that!’ and she told me that she doesn’t know, as she never watches.
“It turns out that she tows me up to the line, unhooks me, parks beside the burnout pad, but never watches me race.
“Mind you – she will still get up me plenty if I make a mistake!” laughed the racer.
When it comes to next weekend’s final, Baczynski pulls no punches on his intentions.
“I go there to win, there is no doubt about that. Whenever I go to a race meeting, whether I win or not, I always go there to win,” said Baczynski.
“It is fun too, and if I lose it doesn’t matter, but I always race to win.”
The JP Racing Eighth Mile Drag Racing Series celebrates grassroots drag racing at some of South East Queensland’s great regional tracks. After kicking off at Warwick Dragway on 21 February and then heading to Willowbank Raceway on 25 April for round two and then Ironbark Raceway for the penultimate round on 1 August, the final preparations are now in place for the final round of the series at Benaraby Raceway on 26 September 2015.
