MOPAR MADNESS SET TO STRIKE THIS WEEKEND

The original ‘one-marque’ celebration at Willowbank Raceway – Mopar Sunday – will return to the Ipswich facility this Sunday (26 July) following a successful All Ford Day at the venue at the weekend.
The 2015 running of Mopar Sunday will be the 13th running for the event which attracts entrants and spectators from not only all over the country, but also internationally.
On-track at Willowbank Raceway this Sunday will be a wide range of on and off-track entertainment, including exhibition passes by local Top Fuel hero Steve ‘The Pom’ Read in his 8,000 horsepower Brisbane Truck Centre Top Fuel dragster which can travel the quarter-mile at more than 450 kilometres per hour in less than five seconds.
“Over the years we have evolved to see the event grow steadily with the help of Mopar Australia and a range of event sponsors. This has included changing our sanctioning to arrange for a larger range of vehicles on the track and offering a range of off-track activities including a Show n Shine display in conjunction with the Queensland Chrysler Association, a dyno competition, Mopar Marketplace, merchandise and a new-for-2015 Chrysler Club Cruise session,” said Mopar Australia event organiser Sam Tatton, who thanks event supporters Mopar Australia, Northstar Chrysler Jeep Dodge, PWR Performance Products, Redline Performance - Surf City Garage, Shannons Insurance.
“We have a huge line up of entrants with a variety of old and new school muscle cars set to test their vehicles on the world class track, as well as the Pom’s Top Fuel dragster, so there is going to be plenty to see. Also with more than 45 trophies up for grabs for entrants in racing, Show n Shine and dyno categories, spectators can be assured that the participants will be giving it their all!”
Tatton said passion was the key to the event’s success.
“I believe the grassroots beginning of this event combined with growth fuelled by the strong passion of the Mopar fraternity has resulted in its success,” said Tatton.
“Our entrants and spectators come from all over the country and internationally, and are extremely passionate about the Mopar brands – and they aren’t scared of using their vehicles on the track.
“Mopar Sunday was the first event of its kind in Australia to combine a static show with racing – creating a successful combination that has now been cloned for other brands and tracks time and time again.”
Drag racing pre-entry is open until Friday the 24th of July, and is also available on the day. Show n Shine entrants do not need to pre-enter – just arrive at the Raceway and enter for free once you have paid your admission at the main gate. Spectator entry (covering Show n Shine and Mopar Marketplace entry also) is just $25.00, Dyno Shootout entry is $25.00 (in addition to general admission), racer entry is $75.00 at pre-entry or $100.00 on the day (including driver admission), and children aged 13 and under gain free admission. Mopar Sunday follows on from the second successful running of the All Ford Day at Willowbank Raceway at the weekend, with more than 960 vehicles and 4,500 spectators heading to the Raceway for a wide array of on and off track activities.
