NEW PARTNERSHIP SEES WILLOWBANK RACEWAY, IPSWICH JETS AND ULYSSESS CLUB SUPPORT THE SALVATION ARMY RED SHIELD APPEAL

2 July 2015

Willowbank Raceway is pleased to announce a new partnership with the Luxury Paints Ipswich Jets and the Ulysses Club (Lockyer Branch) in support of the Salvation Army’s Red Shield Winter Appeal.

As part of the partnership, members of the Ulysses Club will be on-hand at Willowbank Raceway this weekend for Sunday’s All Bike Day, taking donations and handing out information on the Jet’s upcoming ‘Wheels for Winter’ ride on Saturday the 25th of July.  The All Bike Day will be the third event being held at the venue this weekend- following on from Friday’s Test ‘n’ Tune and Saturday’s round of the Street Series (4 July).

“It’s fantastic that the region’s premier rugby league club is now teaming up with one of the biggest motor sport precincts in Australia,” said Ipswich Jets CEO, Wayne Wendt.

“Between the Ipswich Jets and Willowbank Raceway we can tap in to many thousands of Queenslanders who can help us support the Salvation Army’s Red Shied Appeal.  We look forward to welcoming all car enthusiasts to our home game at the North Ipswich Reserve on Saturday 25 July to watch a great game of rugby league but to also support the homeless.”

Willowbank Raceway CEO Tony Manson said the venue was proud to be able to play a part in the appeal, starting this weekend at the All Bike Day.

“It is very important to us here at Willowbank Raceway to play a part in our community, and so we couldn’t be more excited to be joining up with the Ipswich Jets and the Ulysses Club to support the Wheels for Winter event towards the Salvation Army’s Red Shield Winter Appeal,” said Manson.

“We strongly encourage anyone in the area to take part in the ride, to drop off warm clothes, blankets and non-perishable food items to assist those in need, or to make a donation this Sunday at the All Bike Day with one of the Ulysses Club members who will be on-hand accepting collections.”

Ulysses Club (Lockyer Branch) President Alan Gray said his members were looking forward to spreading the word at the All Bike Day this Sunday.

“The Wheels for Winter ride is something very important to us as a club, and we are very pleased to be able to play our part in supporting the Salvation Army’s Winter Appeal with the support of the Ipswich Jets and Willowbank Raceway,” said Gray.

“Make sure you keep an eye out at Willowbank this Sunday for our members, who will be handing out information and collecting donations for July’s event amongst all the action and excitement of the All Bike Day.”

Ken Rice, the current street bike champion, will be on-track at Willowbank Raceway on both Saturday and Sunday this weekend, competing in not only the All Bike Day but also the latest round of the Street Series.

“I think the All Bike Day is a great idea, and I know everybody is really looking forward to it. Hopefully everyone will get behind it and we can get a great turn-out for the event so we can see more specialist bike-days on the calendar in the future,” said Rice. “With the three round racing format it should be a great day out and I am going there to win, which will be the name of game Saturday too where I will be looking to keep locking away the points so I can have a crack at the track championship again.

“Racing two events in one weekend is absolutely a bit of an extra challenge, the poor old bike won’t know what hit it!” laughed Rice. “Later on in the year I actually have two events in one day, so that will be even more challenging, but despite that I wouldn’t miss racing for the world.”

This weekend’s action at Willowbank Raceway will see three events held over three days, starting with a Test ‘n’ Tune on the Friday (click here for more info) before the latest round of the grassroots Street Series sees local heroes pitted against each other for Street Sedan, Street Bike and Powder Puff (ladies only) honours on Saturday 4 July (click here for more info). Sunday 5 July will then have something for all ‘two-wheel’ enthusiasts in a day just for bike-lovers – including both on-track action as well as demonstrations, trade stands and more.
