RECORD NUMBER OF RACERS ANSWER THE CALL FOR POINTS-PAYING DEBUT OF 2013

15 February 2013

A record number of competitors have signed up for this Saturday’s Super Sportsman event at Willowbank Raceway – the venue’s first track championship points-paying event of 2013.

At the close of entries, 125 racers had signed up for the event across its nine race brackets – the largest entry field for a regular track championship round at Willowbank Raceway since May of 2011.

Amongst them are Pro Stock stars Aaron Tremayne (multi-time Australian Champion), Kirsten and Shane Tucker and Denis Whiting – who will be testing out his brand new Pro Stock Pontiac GXP.

There will also be 13 racers in the SuperComp bracket, which will feature eight Sport Compact cars including those of well-known racers Archie Kajewski and New Zealand’s Rod Harvey and Reece Macgregor.

Also set to turn heads in SuperComp will be fast femmes Christine Steffens and Kelly Corbett who will make their debut in the bracket, while Louie Galea will appear in SuperComp with his impressive Chevy Coupe.

The records don’t stop with the overall entry list either with a record nine entries for this year’s Track Championship chase for the Allstar Batteries Supercharged Outlaws bracket, with father and son team Bill and Josh Fletcher a pairing to watch amongst a star-studded field of blown alcohol sedans, dragsters and altereds under the hands of experienced racers such as Daniel Reed, Matty Watts and Matthew McKnight.

Willowbank Raceway Managing Director Steve Bettes said racer support of the event was evident in each and every class on the entry list.

“The strong entry lists are not limited to the SuperComp and Supercharged Outlaws brackets, with big numbers also to be found in the Powercruise Super Sedan (33), Knijff Earthmoving Modified (18), Gasoline Alley Harley Davidson Modified Bike (15), Donnelly Blasting Services Junior Dragster (15), Prime Signs/Speed Elec Super Street (12) and Super Gas (5) brackets,” said Bettes.

“With this number of racers across nine brackets, the racing action is going to be fast and furious at Willowbank Raceway this Saturday - that is for sure.

“A full day of qualifying and racing is scheduled from 9.00am, so I can’t encourage everyone enough to come out and sit in our grandstand for a perfect view of all of the action – it is going to be a great day out!”

Super Sportsman events at Willowbank Raceway are run in a two-part format.

Part one of the event, featuring competition for Willowbank Raceway Track Championship Points, sees qualifying open at 9am for the Modified, Super Sedan, Super Street, Modified Bike, Junior Dragster and Super Gas brackets, who will run two qualifying sessions each.
