Willowbank Raceway - General News: MEDIA RELEASE 220 PLUS NOSTALIGA RACERS CONFIRMED FOR THIS WEEKEND AT WILLOWBANK RACEWAY

MEDIA RELEASE 220 PLUS NOSTALIGA RACERS CONFIRMED FOR THIS WEEKEND AT WILLOWBANK RACEWAY

7 August 2012

With the entry list now closed, 221 nostalgia racers are confirmed for this weekend’s (11 and 12 August 2012) Cruzin Magazine Nostalgia Nationals at Willowbank Raceway, led by three nostalgia nitro funny cars.

It isn’t just the racing that has piqued the interest of nostalgia enthusiasts, with early signs pointing towards a successful feature attraction for the weekend, the Shannons Insurance Show and Shine.

Open to all modern, classic, vintage, import, European and hot rod vehicles, the Shannons Insurance Show and Shine features a number of people’s choice awards and is open to any attendees interested on Sunday 12 August 2012 who have paid their General Admission fee and have arrived to the Show and Shine area by 9.00am.

Trophies will be awarded at 3.00pm and all participants will have the chance to join in the Super Cruise at 1.00pm to drive their vehicle down Queensland’s premier quarter mile and show off their vehicle to the crowd.

Willowbank Raceway Managing Director Steve Bettes said he was looking forward to welcoming nostalgia fans of all ages to the Ipswich facility.

“We more than 220 racers and plenty of on and off track entertainment including the ever-popular Shannons Show and Shine, we are heading into a fantastic weekend of fun at Willowbank Raceway,” said Bettes.

“I am also pleased to welcome Top Alcohol racer Rick Gauci to the wheel of one of the Rocket Industries nostalgia nitro funny cars, replacing Andrew Cowin who due to unforeseen commitments won’t be able to join us this weekend.

“I just know the fans are in for a great show with a true walk down memory lane in store with everything from the nostalgia nitro funny cars to retro bikes and vintage gas racers!”

Late last year, Willowbank Raceway and the Cruzin Magazine Nostalgia Nationals announced a new association which sees the Nostalgia events held at the venue run under the care of Willowbank Raceway track management.

The arrangement has seen a new race format introduced for 2012, and a third event and an exciting new class of racing – Nostalgia Super Stock - to be introduced in 2013.

Under the new format, a range of Elapsed Time (ET) cut-offs have been created, including 6.60s, 7.60s, 8.60s and 9.60s. Cars running 10.50s and slower will be grouped together based on qualifying times into smaller Dial Your Own (DYO) fields. No break outs will be allowed in any of the categories and they will all run on the Chicago Shootout format, guaranteeing plenty of runs for every competitor.
