FUCHS Winternationals kick off after perfect preamble overnight

The FUCHS Winternationals at Willowbank Raceway enjoyed the perfect preamble overnight with the annual fan evening at Riverlink Shopping Centre.
With 513 racers and an estimated 38,000 spectators to visit Willowbank Raceway over the next four days, the FUCHS Winternationals, which is now underway, is the largest drag racing event in Australia.
With Sportsman qualifying kicking off today, the ANDRA Pro Series racers will take the stage tomorrow for their first rounds of qualifying.
In preparation for the final round of the 2011/2012 Australian drag racing season last night a number of the Pro Series racers headed to the local Riverlink Shopping Centre for the fourth annual FUCHS Winternationals fan evening.
Current champions John Zappia (Top Doorslammer), Darren Morgan (Top Fuel) and Chris Matheson (Top Bike) were joined by former Top Fuel champion Phil Lamattina and Pro Stock star Shane Tucker and his sister Kirsten Tucker to sign autographs, model event merchandise and answer fan questions in the East Mall.
“What a perfect preamble Thursday was to the FUCHS Winternationals – with two fan events rolled into the one big day!” said Managing Director Steve Bettes.
“It was great to see the racers get into the spirit Thursday night modeling the merchandise and taking the time out to chat to the fans ahead of their biggest event of the year!”
After kicking off with Sportsman qualifying today, the FUCHS Winternationals action will continue tomorrow from 9.00am, with the ANDRA Pro Series brackets hitting the track for their qualifying from 12noon on both Saturday and Sunday, before Monday hosts the final rounds for all brackets.
The action will not be confined to the quarter-mile however, with family entertainment, trade shows and plenty of action in pit lane for the whole family.
Tickets start from just $20 with students (with ID) able to access discounted entry and children 13 and under enjoying free admission.
