EIGHTH MILE SERIES CHAMPIONS CROWNED AT BENARABY

The action came thick and fast at the Benaraby Raceway in Central Queensland during the final round of the Nitro Magazine 2010 South Queensland Eighth Mile Drag Racing Series across the weekend.
With more than 100 competitors lining up across the six brackets, many of which saw the championship chase go down to the wire, rider and drivers set the track alight on their way to some blistering times across the eighth-mile.
In the battle of the youngsters it was female racer Rebekka List who finished up on top to take the win in the Cosmic Enterprises Junior Dragster bracket over Daniel Donnelly. However, List’s victory wasn’t enough to halt Matthew Loy from claiming the overall series crown ahead of Brandon Gosbell.
Not to be outdone by his younger sibling, Daniel List also found himself in the winner’s circle when he proved superior in the John William Auto Sales Super Street Bracket over Anthony Stover. However Anthony Stover had enough points to take out the series final from Steve Cay.
Continuing the family affair Jason Donnelly went one better than his son did in the Junior bracket by overpowering Bruce Martin to take out the Andrews Affordable Mowing Classic Bracket. The victory in the final round also secured Donnelly the overall series title ahead of Peter Duffy.
While he may not have been able to stop Earl McCallum at the weekend, runner-up in the Allstar Batteries Super Sedan bracket was enough for Scott Sorrenson to win the overall series championship for 2010 with the series runner up Darren Doeblien.
In the two-wheeled brigade Michael Beaton proved too good for Simon Stevens in the H D Bitz Modified Bike category at the weekend, however, it wasn’t enough from stopping Stevens from taking the overall series title with Michael Beaton the series runner up
Jason Page won the the RD William Excavator Parts Modified bracket from David Elston however both did not have enough points to pass the series winner Laurie Fitzgerald and series runner up Andrew Loy.
Series spokesperson John Winterburn was delighted with the overall performance of the inaugural series.
"The feedback for the sportsman racers have been very positive with one series bracket as close as a half a point after four rounds of racing. We hope to be back at Benaraby Raceway in February for the opening round of the 2011 Eighth Mile Drag Racing Series," said Winterburn.
